Multipoint Encryption
In the area of layer 2 Ethernet networks, ever more network providers are offering their customers multipoint enabled WAN services. Their technical implementation uses simple hub-and-spoke scenarios, high-performance Carrier Ethernet or Virtual Private LAN Services. The ATMedia Ethernet Encryptor (MP) effectively protects Ethernet multipoint scenarios against tapping and manipulation. The encryptor operates transparently at network layer 2 and independently of network protocols and terminal equipment used. No change in the network infrastructure or existing redundancy scenarios is required. For the customer, this solution represents a LAN distributed across multiple sites, permitting direct connection of Ethernet terminal equipment. Unlike traditional point-to-point networks, separation between different users by the provider is “virtual” only" – resulting in a significant risk of “intermix” and unauthorized third-party access to the LAN.
