Fibre Channel Encryption

Storage Area Networks are the backbone of today’s data centres. Since they connect the computers to their storage and backup systems, highly sensitive data is transferred within these networks. In a local environment, standard security measures like zoning and access control may still be sufficient. For a SAN spread over several remote locations, however, there is a risk of tapping and manipulation.

Fibre Channel storage network technology is used for local storage connectivity as well as for connecting remote systems for business continuity scenarios. A SAN extension is easily achieved by connecting local Fibre Channel networks over dark fibre or WDM networks.

The ATMedia Fibre Channel Encryptor enables this by simple integration into the existing Fibre Channel SAN network structure. The hardware encryption at layer 2 allows transparent operation in respect of higher network protocols and without measurable effect on the LAN.

  • Fibre Channel E-port encryption
  • Full-duplex encryption at line rate (1/2 GBit/s)
  • No encryption overhead
  • No change whatsoever needed in network infrastructure
  • Maintenance-free operation
  • Exchangeable SFP LWL modules
  • 256 bit AES encryption

dacoso provides hardware, service and maintenance for all ATMedia products.
